25 Nano Banana Prompts for Photo Editing (Copy & Paste)

Nano Banana is at its best when you edit photos with it — upload a reference image, describe the change, and it rewrites the picture while keeping everything else intact. But editing prompts work differently from text-to-image prompts: the secret is saying what to keep, not just what to change.

This is our field-tested collection of photo editing prompts. Every prompt below is copy-paste ready — open the Nano Banana photo editor, upload your image, and paste one in.

The one rule of editing prompts

Before the list, the rule that makes every edit better:

State the change, then state what must stay the same.

A prompt like "make the background a beach" gives the model too much freedom — it may redraw your subject too. Compare:

Replace the background with a sunset beach. Keep the subject's face,
pose, clothing, and lighting on the subject exactly the same.

That second sentence is what separates a clean edit from a re-generation. You'll see it in every prompt below.

Background replacement (1–5)

  1. Keep the subject exactly the same, replace the background with a clean white studio backdrop with soft, realistic shadows
  2. Replace the background with a sunset beach, golden light, keep the subject's face, pose and outfit identical
  3. Put the subject in a modern office with soft depth of field behind them, keep the person unchanged
  4. Replace the busy street background with a minimal light-gray gradient, keep the subject's edges clean and natural
  5. Move the subject into a cozy café interior with warm ambient light, match the lighting on the subject to the new scene

Photo restoration (6–9)

  1. Restore this old photo: remove scratches and dust, fix the faded colors, sharpen details, keep every face identical to the original
  2. Colorize this black-and-white photo with realistic, period-accurate colors, keep all details and faces unchanged
  3. Fix the water damage and creases in this scanned photo, reconstruct the missing areas naturally, keep the people identical
  4. Sharpen this blurry photo and recover facial detail, keep the identity of the person exactly the same

Recoloring objects (10–13)

  1. Change the jacket to a deep forest green. Keep the fabric texture, the lighting, and everything else in the image unchanged
  2. Change the car color to matte black, keep the reflections and environment identical
  3. Recolor the walls to warm off-white, keep the furniture, floor and lighting exactly as they are
  4. Change the product to the same design in navy blue, keep the label, shadows and background untouched

Relighting (14–17)

  1. Relight this photo as golden hour: warm low sunlight from the left, soft long shadows, keep the composition and subject identical
  2. Turn this daytime photo into a blue-hour evening shot with warm window lights, keep everything else unchanged
  3. Add soft studio lighting to this portrait: key light from the front-left, gentle fill, keep the face and expression identical
  4. Make the lighting dramatic and cinematic with strong side light and deep shadows, keep the subject and framing the same

Product & e-commerce (18–21)

  1. Place this product on a seamless light-gray background with a subtle soft reflection, e-commerce style, keep the product and its label exactly as photographed
  2. Put this product on a marble countertop with soft morning window light, keep the product unchanged
  3. Create a lifestyle scene: the product on a wooden desk next to a laptop and coffee, natural light, product identical to the reference
  4. Remove all background clutter, center the product, add a soft drop shadow on pure white, keep colors accurate for e-commerce

Style transfer (22–25)

  1. Turn this photo into a Studio Ghibli style illustration. Keep the character's pose, outfit, and expression clearly recognizable
  2. Convert this photo into a delicate watercolor painting, keep the composition and subject recognizable
  3. Make this photo look like a vintage 35mm film shot: grain, warm faded tones, keep the scene identical
  4. Turn the person in this photo into a 3D collectible figurine on a desk, keep the face and outfit recognizable
